March 3, 2017- 23-Year-Old Man Guilty Of Fatal DWI Head-On Crash
A 23-year-old Westchester County man is facing nearly 15 years in prison after he fatally struck a car head on. According to reports, the man was driving in Yonkers and he crossed the double line at an intersection and struck his victim driving a Lincoln Town Car head on. The man pleaded guilty to a six-count indictment that included felony charges of vehicular manslaughter for his role in the crash that claimed someone’s life. The 23-year-old had a blood alcohol content that was almost four times the legal limit.
February 17, 2017- Westchester Driver Arrested With Double The BAC Limit
A 24-year-old Port Chester man was arrested while driving in Mamaroneck. According to the police, the man was arrested following a traffic stop where they determined that he was intoxicated. He was taken into custody and sent to the state police barrack in Tarrytown. His blood-alcohol content was found to be .18 percent which is two times over the legal limit.
January 4, 2017- New Rochelle Off-Duty Police Officer Accused Of Drunk Driving
On Monday night a rookie New Rochelle police officer was charged with manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Police stated that he was drunk when he crashed his sport-utility vehicle and killed his passenger in White Plains. The off-duty police officer’s preliminary blood alcohol level was .23 which is nearly close to three times the legal limit. The SUV hit a parking meter, a traffic sign, and ended up crashing into a tree. The two men in the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital. The officer was seriously injured and his passenger died instantly. Read more about this DUI here.
December 7, 2016- Greenburgh Police Arrest A Drunk Driver Sleeping In His Car
In Greenburg NY, police arrested a man who was found sleeping in his car following a welfare check. The police performed a welfare check on two people who were reportedly sleeping in their car on the wrong side of the road and were parked halfway on a lawn and in the roadway in the White Plains. The man arrested was found asleep behind the wheel, with a second person who was snoozing in the passenger’s seat. The police struggled to rouse the two men and eventually were able to get them up. They were tested for alcohol leaving the driver to be placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. A DMV check also showed that the man’s license had been revoked for a prior DWI conviction earlier this year. The driver was also in violation of his interlock device restriction.
November 2, 2016- Rye Driver Charged For Killing 21-Year-Old In DUI Accident
White Plains police arrested a 24-year-old woman who was allegedly drunk driving when she hit a 21-year-old Manhattanville College lacrosse player. The accident took place on Westchester Avenue. Police charged the woman with a felony count of vehicular homicide as well as a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. The 24-year-old’s blood-alcohol content was 0.21 when she was tested after the accident. The legal maximum for a DWI charge is .08 percent.
October 1, 2016- Drunk Passenger Charged With DWI After Taking The DD’s Car
In North Castle, NY a 25-year-old man was recently charged and arrested for DWI after he stole the car of his designated driver. The designated driver pulled over on I-684 in order for another passenger to throw up. The 25-year-old passenger got in the driver’s seat and drove away. He injured the DD leaving him lying on the shoulder after he tried to grab the car trying to stop it. He now faces charges that include DWI, as well as second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
September 1, 2016- Pearl River Man Charged With DUI In Single Crash
In Orangetown, NY, a Pearl River man was charged with driving under the influence after his car crashed into a tree and ended up facing upwards in the front yard of a Pearl River home. The 23-year-old man was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he is recovering. When rescuers came on the scene the man was trapped in his car and needed to be extracted by the Pearl River Department. He underwent a blood test at the hospital where he was charged with DUI. He is soon to appear in court.
August 17, 2016- New Rochelle Woman Found Highly Intoxicated And Is Arrested
Police responded to a call of a woman who was suspected of being intoxicated on Rural Drive. She was found sitting on the ground with her legs wrapped around a stop sign. She stated that she was playing Pokemon Go and that her friends had left her. Police found the woman’s car parked, a Mazda 2014, with the engine running on Rural Drive. Upon evaluation by SVAC paramedics as well sobriety tests, both SVAC and the police determined that the woman was intoxicated. It is also believed that woman had driven drunk from New Rochelle and was involved in an unknown accident before stopping her car on Rural Drive.
July 26, 2016- Wrong Way Driver Accused Of DWI In New Rochelle
In New Rochelle, a 26-year-old wrong way driver is facing DWI charges after he caused a crash. According to the police, the man was headed southbound in the northbound lane on Main Street. His car subsequently lost control and crashed into a glass window as well as two mailboxes and two street poles.
June 10, 2016- White Plains Man Hits A Parked Car While Intoxicated
A man from White Plains was recently arrested for hitting a parked car. Officers on the scene stated that the man claimed he had been cut off by another driver which led him to swerve into a parked car. However, there was no other car on the scene of the accident. Officers noticed that the man appeared drunk and irate and he refused to take a field sobriety test. He was arrested and later released on $240 bail.
May 18, 2016 – Staged DWI Accident in Rockland To Raise Awareness
Emergency services in Orangetown recently staged a DWI accident scene to show the dangers to local high schoolers of driving while intoxicated. This comes just before the start of the summer season when traditionally there is a large volume of underage drinking and DWI in Westchester and the surrounding area.
