Recent Drunk Driving Arrests In New York City
Woman Arrested For DWI Drugs While Driving To Manhattan
A woman from Hoboken, NJ was recently arrested and charged with DWI while driving to Manhattan. According to reports, the 23-year-old woman was on her way to work in Manhattan on the morning of Wednesday, October 4th, when police stopped her vehicle at about 7:48 a.m.
The police officer allegedly stopped the woman when he noticed that the woman’s windshield was being obstructed by flowers and saw the woman smoking something that appeared to be marijuana. The officer approached the vehicle and reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the woman’s vehicle when she rolled the window down. A spokesperson for the Port Authority Police also said that the responding officer noticed a burning marijuana cigarette in the vehicle when he approached.
The 23-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly failed a field sobriety test. Police search the woman’s vehicle and found marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.
The woman was ultimately charged with DWI, as well as marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession. She was also cited for a reckless driving offense and driving with an obstructed windshield.
New Jersey Man Arrested On DWI Charges After Nearly Crashing Into Other Vehicles In Holland Tunnel
A man from New Jersey was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Sunday, October 1st, after allegedly driving through the Holland Tunnel and nearly striking several other vehicles in the tunnel.
According to authorities, the 25-year-old man was traveling westbound through the Holland Tunnel at approximately 4:30 a.m. when he allegedly crossed the double solid line and crashed into the left wall of the tunnel.
Police say that the man continued to drive, nearly striking several vehicles in the tunnel before ultimately becoming stuck in traffic near the intersection of 14th Street and Marin Boulevard in Jersey City, NJ.
The man reportedly failed a preliminary breath test (PBT) before police arrested him on the scene. The man was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, according to authorities.
Long Island Man Faces DUI Charges After Crashing Into Home In Saint James, NY
According to police, the man was driving on Bayberry Drive at approximately 4:00 a.m. with several passengers in his vehicle when he lost control of the car and crashed into the home.
Witnesses say that the car burst into flames after impact. It was reported that all four passengers in the vehicle were injured and hospitalized, but sources say all of the injured passengers are expected to survive. A police officer who was responding to the accident was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver was arrested and charged with DWI.
Woman Arrested For Drunk Driving In Staten Island After Skipping Out On A Cab Fare From Manhattan
A woman from Stapleton, New York, was arrested for drunk driving on Friday, October 6th, after allegedly skipping out on a taxi fare.
Police say that the 34-year-old woman took a cab from Manhattan to her home on Staten Island, but reportedly ran into her home without paying the fare when she arrived. Reports show that the taxi driver called 911 to report the woman to police.
The woman then got into her own vehicle at some point and drove off before ultimately being stopped by police. According to local law enforcement officials, the woman was unsteady on her feet during the traffic stop and had a blood alcohol content of .175%.
She was charged with DWI, theft of services and driving while ability impaired (DWAI).
Man From Great Neck Arrested For Driving Drunk With Child In Vehicle
A 33-year-old was arrested on several DWI-related charges on Sunday, October 9th, after he reportedly drove drunk with his 9-year-old son in the vehicle.
According to reports, the man was heading northbound on Plandome Road in the town of Manhasset at approximately 10:46 p.m. when he was pulled over by police officers. The police ultimatley suspected the man of being intoxicated and placed him under arrest on charges of DWI, aggravated DWI, endangering the welfare of a child and several other traffic law violations.
He was scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead, NY on Monday, October 10th for arraignment.
Suspected Drunk Driver Charged With Manslaughter After Leaving Friend To Die At Scene Of Fiery Accident In Brooklyn
A 23-year-old man from Brooklyn is being charged with manslaughter after he allegedly crashed his vehicle and left his passenger to die at the scene of the accident on Friday, October 13th.
According to reports, the man was driving westbound on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in the Red Hook area at approximately 4:00 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier.
The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire. The driver was able to quickly escape and hale a taxi cab, but allegedly left the woman in the passenger seat of the burning vehicle.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident shortly afterwards where the woman was found dead in the passengers seat of the vehicle. Police say that the driver took the taxi to the nearby Maimonides Medical Center to be treated for burn injuries that he suffered in the accident.
The driver is now facing several charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and a speeding violation.
